Team Psychologist

The Role

We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced Part Time (0.6 FTE) Team Psychologist to support Cricket Victoria’s Men’s and Women’s players to develop, the psychological capacity for success and foster an environment that nurtures and integrates the psychological needs of players.

Key Responsibilities include:

  •  Manage player mental health and wellbeing needs, addressing any related issues, and employing best practice intervention protocols
  • Observe training and competition to analyse performance needs, and work with players to develop their mental skills and psychological capacity for success.
  • Assist coaches with understanding player personalities, team culture and dynamics, and ways to optimise communication at the individual and team level.
  • Work collaboratively with the Sport Science & Sports Medicine (SSSM) staff to optimise the mental performance aspects of training and competition preparation, foster a high-performance environment, and provide psychological support to players that are ‘returning to play’ after injury.
  • Comply with the ACPP Sports Psychology requirements and goals.
  • Ensure Australian Cricket Sports Psychology protocols and direction are aligned with Association Objectives and Team Performance Strategy.
  • Document relevant consultations and performance-related information on the Athlete Management System (AMS) in a timely manner.
  • Maintain all personal case notes in accordance with the guidelines stipulated in the APS Code of Ethics.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations including Memorandum of understanding (MOU) and department-specific contractual arrangements
  • Actively participate in High Performance (HP)/SSSM case management meetings and HP conferences. This includes, but is not limited to:

-Regular HP and case management meetings

-Monthly Australian Cricket (AC) psychology network meetings

-Annual AC Psychology working group meeting

-Maintain an ongoing record of relevant Continuing Professional Development over the past 12 months, in accordance with AHPRA requirement.

Required Skills & Experience
  •  Registered Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and listed with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Eligibility for full membership with the Australian Psychological Society.
  • Four or more years of demonstrated experience and success working in sport with elite athletes and coaches.
  • Demonstrated experience in counselling or clinical practice including assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Current Victorian Employee Working with Children Check (or arranged upon appointment).

  –Relevant Area of Practice Endorsement (for example, Sport & Exercise Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Organisational Psychology, or Counselling Psychology).

-Leadership in areas such as program development and management, research, and development of service initiatives
